Yay or Nay? Princess-Abbess Maria Maximiliana von Stadion of Buchau

Although our mysterious lady from last week didn't seem too popular, she still managed a Yay. You guys must be feeling generous lately! But will the bitchy return of Michael Kors on Project Runway this week remind you of the joy of being nit-picky and critical? I can't wait to find out! This is an outfit I'm pretty excited about and had to sacrifice size in order to gain quality, so apologies about that.

Andreas Brugger permanently frescoes Maria Maximiliana on the walls of a church in her spin on a habit for a princess-abbess. Yay or Nay?

  1. Heather, please tell me you're kidding... Back on the Guinness again, I take it?

  2. So I guess I'll take that as a "Nay" from you? Lol

  3. Umm...well, if you have to be a princess and an abbess at the same time, this is probably as stylish as you are going to get.

I'm going to say Yay, just because as habits go, this one is rockin', and because I love black 18th century dresses.

  4. That mantua and that headdress together in the same outfit makes it definate Nay. (Though I do aplaud the attempt at livening up her habit.)

  5. Well, I DO like the knotwork...

    NAY!

  6. Heather...she looks awful..but believe it or not, I find the gown gorgeous. So nay for her but yay for the outfit.

  7. oh deary me, this definately calls for a Nay!
the headgear spoils the entire look, a look which i'm rather pleased died out graciously.

  8. yeah, a BIG nay on the conehead inspiring habit... but a joyful YAY!!! on the dress. I've got to give it to the princess, she really knew how to dress like a stylish abbess and think outside the box... Quite creative, I'll give her that.

  9. Thinking of a Halloween costume, Heather? Please leave off the conehead!

I say yay to the dress, engageantes and fichu, but she has little flair, looks a little dumpy and that headdress is a fright. So that part's a nay. Hope I wasn't too harsh, but I haven't had my tea yet this morning!

  10. I agree with the others that the gown itself is beautiful, especially all the tape work on the skirt. Yay on that end. Still, overall a nay because the rest is just so unflattering and plainly ugly. Also, why do they all look so short and gremlin-like? I feel that I'm seeing Munchkin Land through the eyes of Tim Burton.

  11. Yay! It seems to me so sofisticated and sober. It reminds me of the Bene Geserit ladys of the Dune books.

  12. Yeah, those are seeeexy...NAY NAY NAY!!!!!

  13. "Munchkin Land through the eyes of Tim Burton"--yes!! which is to say, NAY!!

P.S. I've missed your blog! (Started grad school in Sept; consequently needed to sacrifice anything resembling leisure)

  14. HAHAHAHA! I think this is a highly appropriate piece for this week, considering that last Wednesday was International Blasphemy Day. I declare that the Princess-Abbess' gown is undoubtedly a crime against clerical fashion. 18th century equivalent of the Flying Nun (she could have a bicycle under there, you'd never know!)

    NAY!

  15. I've adored most of the past selections for "Yay or Nay", but this one is, not blasphemy against the Lord and His church, but against the institution of fashion!

The lady may be of both noble birth and intent, but should make up her mind as to whether she is a princess or an abbess first!

  16. Lol at everyone's comments! :O)

I'm tempted to swear over this one but I wont. Oh go on then, I will..... it's bl**dy awful! And that's a nay from me. :D

  17. Hmm, I guess this is the nicest she can look since she's a nun. The headress is scary. I like the winding ruches on her gown and it being black isn't so bad. But she's so short, she doesn't look so graceful--her attendants look better.

A Yay for effort, but a Nay as a final grade.

  18. What a horrible headdress! Looks like she is trying to pull of some kind of a medieval princess imitation. Not becoming!!!

However, I agree that the gown in itself is nice, but overall, I'll give the outfit a nay.

  19. Yuck!!! I agree with Aloha, though. If we're judging against the standard habit, then it's awesome. But don't ever let me be caught dead in it, please :-)

  20. Have to agree with some of the others.....
The dress itself is lovely but the headress ruins the whole look.

    Nay
