Rococo Undies!

For any lady in need of new unmentionables, I have to recommend paying a visit to your local Victoria's Secret. I know the store is named after Queen Victoria but this season seems to be all about Marie and Georgie! I saw so many pairs of undies there that they would approve of.

If you are of the Antoinette persuasion pick up some cotton panties in the polka dots and fleur de lis pattern (celadon crest). If Georgiana is more your style she would be all over the lace-waist thongs in the ostrich feather and bow pattern, complete with spangles on the lace (I'm so sad there's no picture of these on the site yet! Check your local store, they're adorable). If neither of those are your style and you just need something that's invisible on a night out there's some pretty brocade pattern pants. If you take a peek on the site you will see more and more 18th century patterns in the different styles. And ladies, don't forget to supply your home phone number when you check out, I get a coupon for a free pair of panties every month or so!

  1. Heather, it is no accident that 'thong' rhymes with 'wrong'. All the same, the brocade panties are super cute.

  2. I got a free pair of the fleur de lis and resisted the ostrich feather ones (budgets you know!). And Paul, I can't imagine why you would care! lol Besides, VPL's are a major no no

  3. What the heck is a VPL?

When I see an injustice to taste, I must speak out, so, m'dear, that is why I care.

Besides, did you know that every time a woman puts on a thong, a unicorn gets cancer? It's true.

  4. HAHAHA! VPL- Visible Panty Lines

A lady should never reveal what kind of underwear she has on while still fully clothed. Hence thongs. Although those brocade panties do the same trick without the floss.

  6. Oh, how cute! I'm not a huge fan of hip-hugger style panties, but these might change my mind ;p

  7. So this begs the question:
Georgie, thong or brocade panties? I think this is the most thought I've ever given to lady-gear. Of course, the other alternative to VPLs is going commando.

  8. Fab- I LOVE Greuze!

Mythosidhe- These all looked really comfy and the new cotton hip panties are very comfy! (Geez I should work for VS!)

Paul- Well, Georgie, in all reality pretty much went commando so that's an interesting bit to think about. But if Georgie saw these thongs, with the little bit of spangle and ostrich feather pattern...yeah she'd totally dig it.

  9. Those are fabulous!

I'm not getting involved in the thong V big panty debate.... suffice it to say I've never given a unicorn cancer! :O)

For more exciting undies, etc. here's one of my favourite sites.

  10. Lesley, that site really does have some fun stuff. Very costumey. I'm glad you've never made a sweet little unicorn terribly ill. It's an historic fact that when the Crusaders brought home the fashion of thongs from Persia, shortly there after the unicorns of Europe were added to the king's endangered species list. Many historians believe that the missing eighth Unicorn Tapestry, which graphically depicted the 'Plague of the Thonge' was ordered destroyed by King Henry VII because of its inherently pornographic overtones. Others say he traded it with Pope Clement VII for some very fine de Medici port and that it hangs to this day in a secret chamber inside the Vatican.

  11. Absolutely not, Lesley! Share the wealth. I hadn't heard of that company but now, naturally, I want everything.

Paul, you are killing me! If I weren't laughing so hard I might actually believe you.

  13. There's a surprise..... and I thought the reference was to Victoria Beckham's secrets of the boudoir and undies drawers.

  14. Actually, Victoria's Secret was started by two men who cleverly knew that women would respond better to their business plan of tricking out the ladies in sexy gear if they felt that there was a fellow woman behind the scenes. A really great book on feminism, Backlash: The Undeclared War on American Women, by Susan Faludi, has a whole section about Victoria's Secret.

  16. Heather how do you know that Georgiana did not wear underwear/panties, I do not remember reading it in Amanda's book?
Where does one find such information?

  17. Well you got me there. Maybe Georgiana did! However for the most part bloomers didn't come until later in history. 18th C undergarments consisted of shifts, etc but not usually any pant-like structure. I've been working on a post about it so I should get that out soon!
